Course Description

The Government of Canada believes that all Canadian children deserve a real and fair chance to succeed, and that high-quality early learning and child care provides a solid foundation for future success.

For Indigenous children and families, culturally appropriate programs that take into account the cultures, languages, traditions, values and customs of First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities can be crucial in creating a foundation for a child’s cultural identity and sense of worth.

This program is ideally suited for anyone seeking a career in Early Childhood Education. The Indigenous focus of the program will enhance your cultural awareness and best prepare you to work in a wide variety of child care facilities.

This joint-venture program between Louis Riel Vocational College and Commonwealth College will give you the skills and the hands-on experience required get you on your way to an exciting and rewarding new career.

Our unique early childhood education program blends theory and coursework with real experience in the field, so you’ll graduate with all of the skills necessary to begin your career. You’ll develop your knowledge and professional skills in child development with the assistance of our diverse early childhood education courses. Additionally, you’ll learn about this valuable and specialized role in the community, the importance of play in children’s learning, the family involvement, cultural awareness and curriculum design.

After Graduation

Upon graduation from the Indigenous Focused Early Childhood Educator program, you’ll have a diverse and dynamic set of skills for the ever-evolving world of childhood education. You’ll be qualified to work in a variety of jobs including child care centers, early learning and family centers, Best Start programs, before and after school programs and with school boards.

At the end of the day, a child’s education is only as effective as their educator. The IFECE program will allow you to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of children.
