Education Assistant Diploma Program in Winnipeg – Flexible Morning and Evening Online Classes.

Graduates of this program will be prepared to work as elementary and secondary school teacher assistants, supporting students and assisting with teaching and non-instructional tasks. Students will be qualified to assist in areas of personal care, teaching and behaviour management under the supervision of teachers or other child care professionals. Opportunities for employment can be found in public and private elementary, secondary and special needs schools and treatment centres.

Admission Requirements:

To be admitted into the Educational Assistant Diploma Program, you must have your Manitoba Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent or have Mature Student Status.

For Mature Student Status you must be 18 years of age or older and must provide all official transcripts or recognized equivalent GED, a current resume, and a written statement explaining why you are interested in the program. In addition, you must successfully undergo an admission interview administered by the College.

All students must submit Adult Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector (ACRVS) and Provincial Child Abuse Registry (PCAR) check documents prior to attending the practicum. These must be less than six months old at the start of practicum.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

As English is the language of instruction at Commonwealth College, it is critical that all applicants demonstrate sufficient English Language Proficiency before they can be admitted into the program. Therefore, if your previous education was completed outside Canada and English may or may not have been the medium of instruction, you must submit proof of English language proficiency. You must provide at least one of the following documentation:

  • Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) with minimum scores of 8 for speaking, reading, writing and listening.
  • A minimum International English Language Testing System (academic IELTS) overall score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 6.0 for the writing and reading categories.
  • A minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 with no less than 50 in each component (paper-based), or achieve a minimum score of 80 with no less than 19 in each component (internet-based)
  • A minimum CANTEST score of 4.5 in the listening, writing and reading categories.
  • Three years of full-time education in English at secondary (high school) or post-secondary (university or college) levels in Canada.
  • Graduation from a Manitoba high school with at least one Senior 4 Core English credit with a minimum grade of 70%.
  • Graduation from a Canadian high school with at least one Grade 12 English with a minimum grade of 70%.

Funding Options:

Student may be eligible, if qualified, for Federal and Provincial loans, grants or awards. Students may also qualify for EI, Band Funding, MMF Funding or even loans facilitated by us.
