In this course, students will learn how to use the features of Microsoft Word in order to create, format and adjust documents. Students will also learn how to modify the appearance and content of documents using features such as page margins, fonts, line space and tab settings. By the end of this course, students will be confident in their ability to use Microsoft Office for duties in the workplace and in personal life.

This course will teach students the basic skills needed to perform effectively as a Medical & Health Administrator. In this course, students will be introduced to basic accounting principles and procedures associated with the role of an administrator. Throughout this course, students will have many opportunities to practice skills such as recording transactions, completing financial statements and preparing accounting documents for a company.

This course introduces students to the modern principles and practices of infection control and safety for clinics, ambulatory settings, and laboratories. Students will learn the industry standards pertaining to infection control and safety, infectious diseases and healthcare-associated infections, blood-borne pathogens, and prevention and post-exposure prophylaxis.

Also included in this course is training on the Personal Health Information Act, including reules and regulations that govern Health Care professionals.

Course Overview :

This Medical Terminology course provides an introduction to the principle of medical terminology and the structure of medical Language. Students will learn to analyze medical terms by their component parts, state the meaning of each part and determine the meaning of each medical term. Students will also learn, through descriptions and exercises, to identify the major anatomical features of each body system, common pathologies which can adversely affect these systems, and different types of specialties where they can apply their knowledge.

At the end of this module, the student will be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Understand how to combine forms, use of suffixes and prefixes to make a medical term
  • Understand how to interchange medical abbreviations with medical words and phrases.
  • Understand, read and spell root words and medical diagnosis as they apply to each body system and specialized area
  • Understand how to apply medical terminology in the workplace and life situations with precision accuracy and clarity
  • Develop an ability to work with the specialized terminology of medicine, including pronunciations, spelling of terms to describe medical circumstances and situations.

Course Overview :

This module will give learners a working knowledge of the medical reports most commonly used in hospital and ambulatory care settings. Students will learn to transcribe a variety of reports from inpatient case studies, taken from actual medical reports. Organized by the body system, reports transcribed include history and physical examination, operative, pathology, radiology, and discharge summary.

At the end of this module, the student will be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Understand Medical Transcription & Transcription rules

  • Develop an ability to transcribe a variety of reports from inpatient case studies, taken from actual medical reports

Course Overview :

Students will be introduced to Accuro software, which has the capability to store a complete range of electronic medical records and has various practice management features. This module will enable students to input all the health information’s to the computer software. Students will learn to register patients, schedule appointments, prepare billing, manage documents and create a cumulative patient profile, etc. Students will also learn their role in the patient flow, and how to provide better patient care and streamline the workflow of the clinic office.

  • Input client health information in EMR software

Course Overview :

This course is designed to provide students with the basic principles of Health Claim Billing in Manitoba. Students will learn how to complete Health Claim cards for manual billing and reconciliation of accounts as well as learn to input Health Number billing on a computerized system.

  • Complete health claim cards for manual billing
  • Complete client account reconciliations

Course Overview :

Delivered in a workshop setting attended by students to obtain a First AID Certificate and CPR-Basic Rescuer certification.

In this course, students will learn proper typing techniques that will help increase their speed and accuracy when working in administrative roles. This course will be asynchronous, requiring students to move through the modules independently.

  • Type at at least 40 Words Per Minute (WPM)
  • Type with proper hand positioning and typing technique
