This program is the original 120-hour Medical Terminology course, delivered as three sequential 40-hour courses of 10 sessions each. Each course has its own detailed course outline, learning outcomes, and evaluation plan, and builds directly on the one before it.

Medical Terminology 1 (40 hours) :

The structure of medical language: combining forms, prefixes, and suffixes; building and dividing medical terms; body planes, cavities, and systems; healthcare professions and settings.

Medical Terminology 2 (40 hours)

Terminology by body system: gastrointestinal, respiratory, cardiovascular, hematologic/immune, integumentary, skeletal, muscular, endocrine, and nervous systems.

Medical Terminology 3 (40 hours)

Terminology by body system, continued: urinary and reproductive systems, psychiatry, oncology, ophthalmology, and otolaryngology (ENT), plus a comprehensive final review and exam.

What You Can Do With This Credential

Completing all three courses gives you a recognized 120-hour credential with several practical next steps, depending on your goals.

1. Build Toward a Full Health Program

If you plan to enroll in a full certificate or diploma program in a health-related field, this micro-credential can be submitted for Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). If approved, this may reduce the amount of overlapping coursework you need to complete in that program. PLAR approval is not automatic — it depends on the receiving program's requirements and is reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and is generally valid for up to two years after you finish this course.

2. Apply for Entry-Level Healthcare Support Roles

Employers in healthcare and adjacent settings often look for staff who are comfortable with medical language, even in non-clinical roles. This credential can support applications for positions such as:

Medical office assistant or administrative assistant in a clinic or healthcare office
Medical unit clerk or ward clerk
Health records or medical billing support
Reception or intake roles in medical, dental, or allied health practices

Note: this credential builds foundational language skills. Some roles may require additional training, certification, or experience — check specific job postings for full requirements.
